HCV / Section 8

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is a federally funded rental assistance program that pays private landlords the difference between what a low-income household can afford and the fair market rent.  The tenant typically pays 30% of their monthly income for housing costs. The HCV program is designed to help low-income families, the elderly and disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Voucher recipients may obtain quality housing in the neighborhoods of their choice in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. The unit selected by the applicant must pass the required inspection guidelines and a required rent reasonable assessment. JHA will execute a contract with the property owner to provide subsidy rental payments on behalf of the participant.
